David Nichols is a musician, author, comics artist and zinester from Australia.
In 1984 David Nichols founded the band The Cannanes, an influential lo-fi group who released recordings on independent labels such as K Records and John Porcellino's label, Spit and a Half. He has also been in the bands Crabstick, Blairmailer, Huon, and Driving Past, and appeared on a single by The Go Team, a band from Olympia, Washington, helmed by Calvin Johnson and Tobi Vail.
David Nichols was a part of the zine scene in the 1980's and 1990's, producing the zine Distant Violins from 1982 onwards and contributing to a number of Australian zines. He was also a contributor to zines in London, England, such as Lemon Meringue Pantry, and the U.S., such as Boysville U.S.A., published by fellow Go Team participant Jeffery Kennedy.
He contributed comics and drawings to a number of zines and did much of the artwork for The Cannanes releases, even after he left the band in 1996.
After leaving The Cannanes, Nichols published a history of the band The Go-Betweens, and worked as a journalist for magazines such as Puncture, Rolling Stone, and Record Mirror.
