Bonfire was the official organ of the NFFF.
The National Fantasy Fan Federation, or N3F as it was commonly referred to, was a fan-run organization which was started in the U.S.A. 1941, and the same year began publishing its official organ, Bonfire. Louis Russell Chauvenet is credited with naming the fanzine, and was actively involved, along with Art Widner, in its formation.
Harry Warner, Jr., in "All Our Yesterdays", relates the history; "The NFFF had begun in the form of a brief article by Damon Knight - 'Unit or Fie!", wich was printed in Art Widner's FanFare. It picked up interest fairly fast. By the second issue of Bonfire, the organisation has 29 members..."
