The Talisman

The Talisman was a science fiction fanzine by Roy W. Loan, Jr.
Published in Columbia Heights, Washington. DC, U.S.A. at least 3 issues of The Talisman were released in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Issue 1 appeared in Fall 1949. It featured an editorial by Roy Loan, Jr., and the articles "What's The Name" by Philip N. Bridges (Space Age Terminology); "Fantasy In Russian Opera" by William H. Evans; "Reviewing Imaginative Literature" by Roy Loan; and "The Road to Fame (Part 1)" by D.R. Smith.
Issue 2 was published in Summer 1950. It featured an editorial by Roy Loan, Jr. and the articles "What's That Name Again?" by Philip N. Bridges; "On Science Fiction and the Weird" by Seabury Quinn; "Comments on Cycles" by Phil Rasch; "The Road To Fame (Part II)" by D.R. Smith; and reviews of books, including H. P. Lovecraft's "Something About Cats".
Issue 3 was released in Summer 1951. It included an editorial by Roy Loan, Jr., an article on witchcraft by Phil Rasch, an article called "The Turbo-Encabulator," ["The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzelvanes, and Part III of a serial, "The Road To Fame" by D.R. Smith, which features Tarzan and Professor Challenger.
Roy Loan, Jr. also released the fanzine The Science Fiction Bookman in the 1940s.
Roy Loan, Jr., along with Bob Pavlat and Richard Eney, ran the convention Disclave 2 in 1951 in the District of Columbia.
