Library Journal, the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field, is read by over 100,000 library directors, administrators, and staff in public, academic, and special libraries.

Jenna Freedman initiated and edits the quarterly Zine Reviews column, which launched in the March 1, 2008, issue. Zine librarians and other subject specialists from across the country evaluated more than 20 zines each year in various zine genres. The Zines column reviewed publications that do not have a masthead, an ISSN, or a circulation of more than 2000, and creators must do much of the production and distribution themselves and may not charge significantly more than the zines cost to produce.

As of March 2009, the column was moved online only and is featured in Library Journal's newest enewsletter, BookSmack! Following March 2012, the column was indefinitely suspended.
