He gained minor fame as the publisher of Die, Evan Dando, Die, a zine inspired by a backlash against the popularity of the rock band Lemonheads. He later paired up with Crank publisher Jeff Koyen to produce the glossy men's magazine Hollywood Highball, which rapidly foundered when Fox and Koyen fell out. Fox now publishes Barracuda Magazine.
