Balthus
Balthus was a folklore and fantasy zine by Jon M. Harvey.
Published in Cardiff, Wales, in the 1970s, four issues of Balthus appeared. The first issue was released March 1971, with issue two following in the same year; the next two issues appeared in 1972.
Issue 2 featured cover art by Jim Pitt, and illustrations came from David Lloyd, and Rick Scollins. Essays were contributed by Brian J. Frost, writing on A. Merritt; and Jon Harvey, writing on The Wild Hunt. Contributions of fiction included by "Ash Shadow" by Mark Adlard, and "The Smugglers of Penrose" by Sarah L. Eneys.
Issue 3 featured fiction by Eddie C. Bertin ((Dunwich Dreams), and Robert J. Curran. Articles included Andrew Darlington writing on Colin Wilson, and David Ieuan, writing on Arthur Machen. Contributions of artwork were by Trev Goring, David L. Fletcher, Trev Goring, Alan Hunter, David Lloyd, Jim Pitt, and Peter Western.
Jon Harvey later published Balthus Review". He also edited the fantasy anthologies "Dark Words Gentle Sounds" (1977); "Dreams of a Dark Hue" (1978); and, most recently published the portfolio, "The Weird and the Wonderful" (2012).
