Chainbreaker was published by Shelley Jackson of New Orleans, LA with #4 as the last issue of the zine. An Anthology book of all four issues and 131 pages of new material was published by Microcosm Publishing entitled The Chainbreaker Bike Book: A Rough Guide to Bicycle Maintenance in 2007.
Future issues were not released due to Hurricane Katrina destroyed all originals and materials for zine-making. Shelley quickly lost momentum and did not have copies of her own zine for a period.

Chainbreaker is one of the twenty zines featured in the book Stories Care Forgot: An Anthology of New Orleans Zines, edited by Ethan Clark, with an introduction by John Gerken, published by Last Gasp in 2006. The book reproduces work from the zines and also included individual editors' experiences of Hurricane Katrina. Proceeds from the sale of the book went to grass roots groups working in New Orleans.
