The Alchemical Postmodern Theorist
The Alchemical Postmodern Theorist is a full-size "journal of queer possibility," featuring articles, interviews, art and commentary about queer anti-assimilation politics, identity, trans and genderqueer spirituality, pornography, commercialism and capitalism, and mental health.
Two issues have been published so far. The numbering system assigns these issues as 1.1 and 1.2, respectively, implying a volume/issue organizational system. The first issue is titled "The Buying of Queer Culture" and focuses on the transformation of gay activism from radical resistance to police brutality and intolerance, to a consumer-happy culture seeking assimilation in the form of gay marriage and acceptance into the church and military. Issue 1.1 contains an interview with FTM porn star Buck Angel and a photo journal by writer, director and activist Tobi Hill-Meyer.
Issue 1.2 is titled "This is What We Call Family," and focuses on queer non-traditional family structures. It includes a lengthy article on the history of the AIDS epidemic and the racial demography of HIV/AIDS over time, and an article on trans families by artist Sybil Lamb.
Issue 1.3 is expected to be released summer of 2013 and calls for submissions asked for articles and artwork on mental health and spirituality, from queer perspectives.
The Alchemical Postmodern Theorist is distributed by The Alchemist's Closet.
