Something For Nothing is a zine from Massillion, Ohio, U.S.A.

Something For Nothing was started in 1988 by a punk named Idy (Billy). The content is currently focused on his personal favorite/'classic' records, along with beverage, zine, and book reviews, plus other assorted pieces. The layout style is generally precise, but done in a traditional cut & paste manner.

Early issues were single sheet (and the first few, single sided), 8.5x11" flyer-zines, under the names Thrash & Trash and Renewal Of Mind (or R.O.M.). After five issues, the format was changed to multiple pages, and the name was changed to Something For Nothing. The cataloging restarted as Issue One, but after a few issues and a brief flirtation with selling subscriptions (and another new name, The Birdcage Liner), all past issues/names were included in the numbering with the release of Something For Nothing Issue 12.

Throughout the 1990s and the first few years of the 2000s, page size and count varied from issue to issue. Content also varied from the Christian music & mild proselytizing of the early issues to a more inclusive, eclectic hodgepodge of views, ideas, and musical coverage. The mid-90s though 2003 saw various, diverse contributing columnists come and go, with Idy ever at the helm.

In January of 2006, Issue 62 was announced as 'the final issue', but after a five-and-a-half year break, Issue 63 was released in 2011. Issue 72 was released in December of 2015. In October of 2015, Idy began hosting The Something For Nothing Music Show on Canton Ohio's neopa community radio station (neopa.org).
