she's so very... is a perzine written by melissa ann which originated in Muncie, Indiana, U.S.A. in 2002 and is now being published in Bloomington.
Issues
Issue number twelve. 34 half sized pages. Summer/Fall/Winter (June-December) 2008. Includes the last tour and disbanding of JERK ALERT!, travels on the east coast, and a 2000 Le Tigre interview.
Issue number eleven. 38 half sized pages. Winter/Spring (January-May) 2008. Includes recording an album with JERK ALERT!, trying new things, and an interview with actress/musician Krysten Ritter.
Issue number ten. 30 half sized pages. Fall/Winter (August-December) 2007. Includes an abortion story and struggles with self-esteem and mental health issues.
Issue number nine. 26 half sized pages. Spring/Summer (April-August) 2007. Includes melissa ann's band tour through the southeastern United States, meeting Fred Schneider of the B-52's in Athens, Georgia, and dealing with relationships.
Issue number eight. 30 half sized pages. text and photographs. Fall (August-November) 2006. Content includes a roadtrip to Athens, Georgia in august of 2006, the end of a relationship, and the beginning of a new one, and becoming the singer for JERK ALERT!.
Issue number seven. 40 half sized pages. text and photographs. Summer (June-August) 2006. This is sort of a split issue; part of it was written in the summer of 2004, the other part was written this past summer. It a includes a comic strip drawn by sassafrassy. In addition to many other things, this issue deals a lot with love and loss.
Issue number six. 28 half sized pages. text and photographs. Spring (March/April) 2006. This is a personal issue and deals with rape, abortion, cutting and melissa ann's mother's most recent hospitalization. It also deals with the events of the editor's Belle and Sebastian weekend and boys.
Issue number five. 24 half sized pages. text and magazine clippings. Autumn 2005. This issue was written after melissa ann's move to bloomington, indiana. It includes details of her trip to Portland, Oregon in October '05 to see Idlewild. this zine was made with magazine clippings and typewriter text, all cut and paste.
Issue number four. (out of print) 12 half sized pages. March 2005. This issue was written one late night while the editor was at work, and was typed on the computer. It's all about mental illness.
Issue number three. (originally came with a mixtape soundtrack) 24 half sized pages. text and photographs. Autumn (October/November) 2003. This was written during a period of time when melissa ann was very ill with mononucleosis. She writes about being sick, depression, living back at home, and boy problems. Includes song lyrics from her favorite songs at that time as well as her photography.
Issue number two. 40 half sized pages. text and photographs. Winter (February/March) 2003. This issue has been described as a personal/political/self-help/art/fan zine. The editor writes about her life, her beliefs and insights and tie it all together with idlewild quotes, poetry and her photography.
Issue number one. (out of print) 16 half sized pages. text and photographs. Summer 2002.The editor's very first zine. It's personal in content and includes rants about school, plans for the summer, a roadtrip to New York City to see Placebo, a shower-stall peeping tom and some poetry.
