Peachy Keen
Peachy Keen is a radical, queer-focused feminist zine based in Lansing, MI., U.S.A.
Started in 2012 by Abbie Heath and Caroline Caswell, Peachy Keen attempts to spread awareness about queer, trans, and feminist issues through a radical lens. Though a submissions-based zine, Peachy Keen is organized thematically, with themes often focusing on topics that do not inherently appear to be feminist or queer oriented. For example, volume two focused on the queer studies and fashion, and and the third volume discussed queer feminisms and food. The zine always has hand-sewn binding, and often has multi-layered covers.
While the Peachy Keen manifesto is listed in the first volume, the aims of the zine are as follows:
- Be inclusive of all genders, classes, and races
- Positively embrace all sexualities
- Obliterate the binary
- Present a sex-positive message, that accepts rather than villanizes sex workers
- Provide an outlet for silenced voice to be heard, specifically looking to queer, trans*, and people of color whose voices have been ignored by the mainstream feminism of the past.
- Showcase Greater Lansing artists who explore gender-based discrimination through their work, as well as other artists everywhere
- Create discussion about these topics in order to move feminism forward in Greater Lansing and beyond
- Smash the patriarchy
Peachy Keen is printed by Peachy Press, which has tabled at DIT Fest Lansing, Grand Rapids Zine Fest, Mid-Michigan Zine Fair, and Chicago Zine Fest.
