Kim "Riot" Schwenk started making zines in 1987, in the early stages of the riot grrrl movement, as a reaction to the patriarchy of the punk movement. Her zine enthusiasm came full circle with the conception of "Grrrl Zines A-Go-Go", an all women San Diego based zine activist collective. The group focuses on the empowerment of young women through the production of fanzines and self published works. [Grrrl Zines A-Go-Go] has published three zines related to zine workshops, networking, and preservation and collecting. Kim works as an archivist at the University of California, San Diego in the Rare Books and Manuscript department.
