Girl Swirl zine was started in the winter of 1998 after Taryn Hipp had moved from Pennsylvania after finishing high school to Denver, Colorado to attempt life alone.
There were twelve issues before putting out a collection of pieces in 2005 in book format, titled "Girl Swirl The Book". Girl Swirl started as a women's health and information before it became the personal zine most remember it as.
