Michael Sugar
Michael Sugar (Born Michael David Sugarman (or Sugarmen) but also went by names including Muhammad Aswar and David Drambuie- June 7th, 1969 - July 24th, 1996) was a zine editor and writer during the 1990s. He claimed to be from Denver, Colorado, though he told others he was from both Chicago and Detroit at various times.
Sugar wrote for various zines while he was working as an assistant professor in Boston. Two of his students, M Lloyd and Jay Crasdan, introduced him to zines after they were in his Western Civilization class in 1993. He wrote a number of articles for Lloyd's zine That Rounded V, and for Stacked Decks. He also edited Sweet As Sugar for two issues before his suicide at the age of 27.
Sugar's essay "Crying for That Sexy Girl" was used as the introduction for SaBean MoreL's Trying to Fuck The Furniture
MoreL has begun collecting most of Sugar's writings into a one-shot called The Sickest Individual Who Ever Thrived.
