Kim "Riot" Schwenk is a zine publisher that lives in San Diego, CA who has been very active in the Riot Grrrl moviement.
Schwenk started making zines in 1987, during the early stages of the Riot Grrrl movement, as a reaction to the patriarchy of the punk movement. Her zine enthusiasm came full circle with the conception of Grrrl_zines_a_go-go, an all women San Diego-based zine activist collective. The group focuses on the empowerment of young women through the production of fanzines and self published works. Grrrl_zines_a_go-go has published three zines related to zine workshops, networking, and preservation and collecting.
Kim currently works as an archivist at the University of California, San Diego in the Rare Books and Manuscript department and publishes Grrrl Noire, Cyclette, Radio, Radio, Goat Farm, and the Sacred and the Profane.
