Founded in 1966, the Little Maga/Zine Collection at the San Francisco Public Library documents the alternative press of the San Francisco Bay Area. Little magazines and zines form the core of the collection, covering the 1940s onward. Almost every literary movement may be found here. A selection of little mags and zines that have been influential to or connected with San Francisco may also be found here, as well as a small reference collection and ephemera. The collection holds over 3,860 items and is considered one of the most important collections of its kind in a public library.

Located in the Marjorie G. and Carl W. Stern Book Arts & Special Collections Center on the sixth floor of the Main Library, the collection is open to the public Tuesday through Thursday: 10-6; Friday: 12 Noon-6; Saturday: 10–6; Sunday: 12 Noon–5. Closed Monday. No appointment is necessary.
