Founded in 1966, the San Francisco Public Library's Little Maga/Zine Collection documents the alternative press of the San Francisco Bay Area. Little magazines representing almost every literary and social movement from the 1940s onward may be found here. The library started collecting zines in 1991. Ephemera and reference materials on the history of little magazines and zines also included. The collection holds over 4,000 items (more than 1,000 titles) accessible through a finding aid and online catalog.

Considered one of the most important collections of its kind in a public library, the Little Maga/Zine Collection is located in the Marjorie G. and Carl W. Stern Book Arts & Special Collections Center on the sixth floor of the Main Library.

The collection is open to the public seven days a week: Monday: 10am-6pm; Tuesday-Thursday: 9am-8pm: Friday and Saturday:12 Noon-6pm; Sunday: 12 Noon–5pm. No appointment is necessary.
