Pioneers Press focuses on survival and sustainability from the farm to the city, in addition to health, gender, sexuality, and a cruelty-free lifestyle. Pioneers Press was previously named Microcosm Distribution, which was started by ex-Microcosm Publishing collective members after they split from Microcosm Publishing in 2012. Jessie worked at Microcosm Publishing from 2006 to 2012.

Jessie Duke was the co-founder and managing editor of the weekly newspaper Fahrenheit San Diego and has written and done editorial work for a number of publications, including Herbivore Magazine, Risen, and the Portland Mercury.
