In 1984 David Nichols co-founded the band The Cannanes, which went on to release recordings on independent labels such as K Records and John Porcellino's label, Spit and a Half. He has also been in the bands Crabstick, Blairmailer, Huon, and Driving Past, and appeared on a single by The Go Team, a band from Olympia, Washington, helmed by Calvin Johnson and Tobi Vail.
