Askance is the bimonthly fanzine edited and published by John Purcell since March, 2007.

It is available on-line in PDF format at efanzines.com, but is also available in a printed version by request. Printed versions are published in Texas, U.S.A.

Contributing writers have included James Bacon (Journey Planet), Gregory Benford (Void), George Kenneth Berger, Claire Brialey (Banana Wings, Journey Planet), Linda Bushyager (Duprass, Granfalloon, Karass), Bill Fischer, Brad Foster, Charles E. Fuller II, Chris Garcia (The Drink Tank), Janet Hetherington, Arnie Katz (Vegas Fandom Weekly), Dave Langford (Ansible), Lee Anne Lavell (Space Cage, Embelyon), Lloyd Penney (Torus), Patricia Rogers, Robert Sabella (The National Fantasy Fan), Thomas D. Sadler, Steve Silver (Argentus), and Taral Wayne (DNQ), among others.

Contributing artists included Sheryl Birkhead, Ross Chamberlain, Brad W. Foster, Dick Jenssen as 'Ditmar' (Perhaps), Trinlay Khadro, Valerie Purcell, Bill Rotsler, Isaura Simon, Steve Stiles, Taral Wayne, Alan White, and Frank Wu.

The cartoon "Figby" is contributed by Bill Fischer.

Letters came from Juanita Coulson (Yandro, ST-Phile), Dave Locke (Awry, Time and Again), Eric Mayer (E-Ditto), and Lloyd Penney (Torus), among others.

With the March, 2010 issue (the third anniversary issue), Askance began a quarterly publication schedule. Unfortunately, there was not a December, 2010 issue due to computer-related problems, but the zine resumed its schedule in March, 2011.

John Purcell previously published the fanzines This House, And furthermore..., and In A Prior Lifetime.
