Anarchism is a political theory asserting that all forms of governmental authority are unnecessary and harmful. Anarchists advocate for a society based on mutual cooperation and free association. Many anarchists extend this belief beyond the realm of government into personal, family, and work relationships. From its beginnings, the punk movement has been closely allied with anarchism, though they are not interchangeable.

Zines are a common medium used to proliferate anarchist texts. As the 2023 criminal indictment of 61 individuals protesting the building of Cop City in Atlanta, Georgia notes, "The spread of anarchist ideas is conducted through word of mouth, internet, and written form. ... Other written documents, known colloquially as 'zines,' promote anarchist ideas."[1]
